Mode Boutique

Over the past couple years, I have explored ways of bringing fashion to others, and I have finally come up with my concept!  I have opened a new store called Mode Boutique, providing new clothes, handbags, and accessories to women.  I also provide Personal Shopping services and Closet Consultations.  Mode Boutique is currently available through home parties.  Personal Shopping and Closet Consultations are available by appointment.  Please email if you would like to host a party or make an appointment.
Thanks!

Resolutions

I'm not a huge believer in making New Year's Resolutions. I think it's great, to have goals and reach for them, but sometimes I think resolutions get lost in the mix of a busy life, and are sometimes set a little too high, for even the most goal oriented person to reach.  However, I had some friends in town, and we were talking about resoultions, and I wanted to participate in the conversation...so, I cracked... and made some of my own:
Here they are!

1. NO MORE COOKIES!  In other words, eat healthier.  Like more whole grains, fruits, and natural sugars.
2. Continue to Embrace life, the good and the bad, and be happy where you are at!
3. Continue working on my MBA in Marketing and on my side personal shopping business.
4. Become a Zumba instructor.

As, #3, includes working on my side personal shopping business, I will post here ways of exploring how that will look this year.  I love to shop for others.  I feel like it is a talent I have that surpasses others I have.  At times, I feel it sounds "silly" to call it a talent, until, I am in action, and working with a client.  Especially, when I know someone well, I can then really help them out.
With our economy, still where it is at, it's difficult for anyone to go and spend whatever they would like on clothes.  So, focusing on lower cost items is important to me.  A lot of the time that includes used items, that once washed and pressed, look like they came from a new store.  I am very convinced Savers Stores is one of the best!  If you haven't alreay tried it, look for a store near you:

Month 4 and 5 of not buying anything new for 6 months...

For the past few months I have been trying to buy only 1 new item a month.  It was meant to help me curb spending, save money, and (as I found out this month), evaluate my spending a little more, and conciously think more about what I am buying.  For me, the items I love to buy are clothes, shoes, and accesories.  But, you can really apply this to any area of shopping... ie, home furnishing, hunting equipment, hobby stuff... etc.

Month 4- April-  I did well.  I bought a new Twin's T-shirt at Target for the month.  And then I continued my not buying anything new.  I have continued allowing myself to thirft store shop.  Including my favorite "Salvation Army" Basement on North 4th street.  Which technically has new Target clothes in the basement.  But, this is a grey area in my rule!

Month 5- May- I bought a new scarf, tank, undertop, at my favorite store in Nordeast- Parc Boutique.  I consider this 1 item because I had a discount there.  But, again a grey area!   I bought a couple pieces of jewlery through Stella and Dot, and really fun jewlery line.   And that will have to be for June!

As you can see, April and May has been full of a lot of grey area!  I think the most difficult thing, has been that I really love fashion and buying all the "new" pieces.  But, one thing I found was that you can find something you really like full price, and then purchase it at a second hand shop for less!  Don't get me wrong, I think full priced items are great, and need to be bought to keep the market/economy going, but, in moderation.  Moderating your spending can be fun and allow you to be creative.  And of course, if you do not have the time to shop and "search."  You can always hire me!  You can contact me at:  shopformecynthia@gmail.com

Thanks for reading!  And Happy May!

March 31st... Last day of the month...

I am on the last day of the month...of not buying anything new!    This is 3 of 6 months of not buying anything new... unless it is a necessity:  ie; toilet paper, gas, food, etc.  I am thinking of this as a purification/detox really of  all the purchasing I did over Novemeber and December, like I was never going to get to go shopping again!  Lol!  Sort of like a food detox!

I went to VS last night, with coupon in hand and got my free item!  Then headed to the used bookstore and got my "new" book... "The Wonder Spot," by Melissa Bank.  It was $7!  Half of what I would have paid at a bookstore.

I keep thinking what am I going to buy in April?  I would like to finish not buying anything new for the next 3 months of my New Year's Resolution (6 months of not buying anything new)... with the exception of buying one new item each month.
I don't think I can deprive myself too much now!

I will continue looking into used items.  It is difficult, especially in a culture of buying.  But, the rewards are so much greater buying used.  It was so fun to go into the used bookstore.  I found a really fun event to on April 9th in Uptown... that is FREE!  :)  It was fun, saving money!  And I felt adventurous/creative... utilizing my resources!
What are your resources you have found helpful???

March 28, 2011 Fell off the wagon, but got back on...

I fell off the wagon (New Year's Resolution Wagon... to not buy anything new for 6 months...'see previous blogs') late February... with some much needed retail therapy.  I got dumped... and immediately dashed for my favorite boutique.  I was bummed later in the month to see my credit card statement in the mail... and thought immediately... "ok... spending freeze!"  So, much for not buying anything new for 6 months.  I guess the wonderful thing about falling off a wagon, is unless, you break something, you can easily get back on {heart excluded}.
March has been a month of a spending freeze, and gathering my thoughts on what I really need and don't need.  I think reality also hit when I filled up my car with gas, and it was close to what I spend per week in groceries!  Yikes!  "The things I need..."
1. Food
2. Gas
3. Toilet Paper
After that, my budget leaves less to be desired.  But, I have again began to think of creative ways to get fun and new items.  I recently had a clothing exchange with some friends and scored big time!  An Ann Taylor dress, a new pajama top, roller blading t-shirt, sweater, and a gardening shirt!
All, for the small price of some groceries (food for my guests)!  It was a blast, and others scored big as well.  I highly suggest it!

Day 9 of not buying anything new:

It's difficult, but getting easier.  I have to say that really after 3 days, it felt like my desire to buy anything new, was decreasing, until the other day I went into a flower shop!  Yes, sitting in a little wire basket below all the clearance xmas items... were the cutest xmas cards.  And they were 75% off!  Oh, how I wanted them, they would be perfect for next year!  Only $2 and some change.  But, I resisited. Maybe I can make my cards next year.

I've started to be creative again.  I crocheted my sister a scarf, in 2 hours!  Well, an ear warmer... and I'm almost done with my una scarf.  I cook, organize, and man, I have a lot of stuff!  Enough clothes, jewelry, shoes...

I think that if I can do this for 3 monthes, then for the next 3 months, I can buy one new thing per month. I think it's good to make some adjustments and be somewhat realistic!

Day 3 of not buying anything new...

... so I feel like I am an shop addict going through withdrawl.  It probably isn't that dramatic, but I found myself this morning looking online for post-holiday sales!  "Oh, that would be cute for her... or him... or wait if so and so has a baby one day that onsies with a bike on it would be so cute! or the komono onsie would be so cute for my friends sister who's baby... wait, their baby is grown up!"

Shopping is fun, and I love it and I have a side business doing it.  But, I think these periods of "purifcation" or rather "detoxing" are good for the soul and can bring you back to a normal reality, especially after all the holiday shopping.

I have found that second hand stores are great, and that just looking in my closest  I can find things that I totally forgot I had.  And plus... I love to make scarfs and have been promising my sister one for weeks, so I better get on that!
